The converter is based on two particularly refined PCM56PK R2R DACs, carefully selected by SW1X for optimal tuning. Signal processing begins with an active I/V conversion using a special transistor with an extremely low input impedance of under 10 ohms. The following amplifier topology is a pure class-A anode-follower circuit with single-ended tubes and no negative feedback whatsoever. A 6N6P double-triode tube serves as the output stage. - [Stuttgart HighEnd Show 2025](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms3zxjO-Jkw): Highlights from Stuttgart High End Show 2025 Germany. - [Introducing SW1X Headphone Pre-Amplifier](https://sw1xad.co.uk/introducing-sw1x-headphone-pre-amplifier/): Integrated EL84 Line &  EF86 Phono Headphone Pre-Amplifier - [SW1X MPA V ‘Atlas’ Push Pull Monoblocks](https://sw1xad.co.uk/sw1x-mpa-v-atlas-push-pull-monoblocks/): Product Page - [DAC V Classic in Customer’s Audio System](https://sw1xad.co.uk/dac-v-classic-in-customers-audio-system/): TDA1541 DAC with Active I/V 45 DHT Output Stage & Signal Output Transformers - [Top-of-the-line PRE V Signature](https://sw1xad.co.uk/top-of-the-line-pre-v-signature/): Enrich the sound with Silver wound Super HiB DC-core Signal Output Transformers - [SW1X Capacitor Shootout Episode 5](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgwX9wLFo2Q): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgwX9wLFo2Q - [What makes Philips TDA1541 & TDA1540 the best DAC?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qznyAtZ8rnI): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qznyAtZ8rnI - [Do Capacitors Improve Sound?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8p4x6G29Cs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8p4x6G29Cs - [SW1X Battle Royale Episode 7](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JwrmkEU6fU): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JwrmkEU6fU - [SW1X Battle Royale Capacitor Shootout Episode 6](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6lZK2SWu6w): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6lZK2SWu6w - [The Truth About DAC Bit Perfection and Real World Accuracy](https://sw1xad.co.uk/the-truth-about-dac-bit-perfection-and-real-world-accuracy-2/): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfx7RduK-5s - [SW1X Capacitor Shootout Episode 4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvQzO-_n5pQ): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvQzO-_n5pQ - [Top 5 R2R DACs](https://sw1xad.co.uk/top-5-r2r-dacs/): When we talk about top of the line DACs, we have to begin with an honest admission: the ideal DAC exists only in our minds. All their wanderings, frequent visits to dead ends, as well as returns to previously rejected ideas occur, primarily because of the miscalculations of audio expert examination. Being in most cases untenable, audio expertise deprived designers of audio equipment of the correct landmarks, and therefore their creative activity is similar to the wandering of travelers in the forest without a compass. - [FB feed](https://sw1xad.co.uk/fb-feed/) - [Distributors](https://sw1xad.co.uk/home/dealers/): All our Authorised Distributors are listed on our Distributors page! However, raw popularity doesn't always translate into the finest musical performance. - [Evaluating Audio System – Critique of ‘Comparison by Contrast’ Approach](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/evaluating-audio-system-critique-of-comparison-by-contrast-approach/): Evaluating Audio System - Critique of 'Comparison by Contrast' Approach - [Power Delivery : Guide To Matching Amplifiers with Speakers](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/power-delivery-relationship-between-speakers-and-power-amplifiers/): For optimal performance, power amplifiers and speakers must not only be matched — they should be designed to work in harmony. Our power amplifiers are specifically optimized for damping, meaning they offer exceptional control over the movement of the speaker driver cone. This is achieved in tandem with our speakers, which present a flat impedance curve tailored to our amplifiers. The result is maximized power delivery and minimal energy loss. - [Our Favourite Top 5 DACs](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/our-favourite-top-5-dacs/): When we talk about top of the line DACs, we have to begin with an honest admission: the ideal DAC exists only in our minds. Nothing in this world is perfect. Yet the idea of perfection of a DAC that completely disappears and leaves only music has always guided the search. - [Resources](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/resources/): https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-product-manuals/ - [TOP 5 Pre-Amplifier Tubes: Our Favourites](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/top-5-pre-amplifier-tubes-audio/): In this article, we're sharing our favourite TOP 5 Pre-Amplifier tubes—the vacuum tubes we consistently rely on in our designs and the ones that have delivered the most satisfying sonic results over years of listening and development. - [SW1X Audio Design Performance System](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/sw1x-audio-design-performance-system/): SW1X Audio Design Performance System is a guideline and an indicator of the quality of sound our customers can expect from the SW1X Audio Design™ product they are looking at. The goal is to help you in your search for the highest level of sound quality for your money. - [SW1X Audio Design Philosophy](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/sw1x-audio-design-philosophy/): With a few exceptions most products offered on the market are designed to look great yet not designed to reproduce music. Most brands in the hi-fi industry are chasing the latest features, specs, numbers and furniture designer looks. We on the other hand are less concerned by all that. We foremost design our products to be functional- the quality of music reproduction being the main function & feature, which is timeless. Our objective is to produce audio equipment, which must be able to reproduce musical information as intended by the musicians, similar to a universal musical instrument. Our approach to audio engineering is the result of end-less experiments and testing. In a nutshell, we implement following ideas: - [DACs made by SW1X: The speciality of making great sounding designs](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/dacs-made-by-sw1x-what-is-different-about-them/): There are multiple factors, which help to explain why our DAC products display a direct-from-the-source analogue sound character, can convey convincing musical realism with low level musical complexity and the fine spatial nuances that other DACs struggle with. Amongst other things our products intentionally do not have "bells and whistles"- load of features that most mainstream DACs showcase. The features may make the product stand out being more attractive, helping to sell a product but in the end come at the cost of sound quality. The features that contribute to destruction of musicality in a high performance audio product are but not limited to displays, meters, volume controls, switches, buttons and relays, multiple  in- and outputs  and last not least vast compatibility to all possible media formats and standards, just to name a few. - [Informed and Rational Choice in High End Audio](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/informed-and-rational-choice/): In a modern marketing dominant world, we are exposed to a lot of information. Some of that information is necessary and is useful to stay informed. However the largest proportion of information is used to keep us either overloaded or deliberately used to mislead us.  We as music lovers and audiophiles would like to be highly knowledgeable about the product(s) of interest. We would like to make a rational and well informed decision, when it comes to investing into high fidelity audio equipment.  Unlike mainstream marketing, our goal is keep you informed by being transparent about the materials and components we employ. - [Some Reflections on Decadence of Audio](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/some-reflections-on-decadence-of-audio/): Some Reflections on Decadence of Audio - [Output POWER: How Loud Should The Music Be?](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/how-loud-should-music-be/): A. M. Likhnitsky analyzes the sound pressure levels required for realistic reproduction of symphonic music in domestic listening environments by comparing the acoustic characteristics of concert performances with typical home playback conditions. - [Valve Audio Design Literature](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/audio-design-literature/): Some books on the older but still relevant technology can be found here. - [What makes SW1X Audio Design™ sound?](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/what-makes-sw1x-audio-design-sound/): http://sw1xad.co.uk/high-end-audio-a-definition-by-sw1x-audio-design/ - [High Performance Audio: a definition by SW1X Audio Design™](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/high-end-performance-audio-a-definition-by-sw1x-audio-design/): High Performance Audio refers to the High End Performance Audio Reproduction Equipment, which should be able to: - [Remote streaming vs Local playback and why it matters](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/remote-streaming-vs-local-playback-and-why-it-matters/): One of the reasons as why vinyl (local) playback can be so lively & convincing sounding is that the signal is not correctively processed, i.e. travels near instantly virtually unimpeded from any time domain manipulations from the groove of the LP to our eardrums. It is a local playback after all. - [Why re-clocking of SW1X DACs is a bad idea?](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/why-re-clocking-of-sw1x-dacs-is-a-bad-idea/): There is an ever  growing number of re-clocking devices on the market. Almost every streamer and DAC has this feature now days- only SW1X products do not. While the rationale behind re-clocking makes perfect sense. In practice it tends to improve the sound quality of noise shaping based DAC products. However for some reason SW1X DAC designs do not follow this fashionable trend at all. - [Signal Output Transformers vs Signal Capacitors](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/signal-output-transformers-vs-signal-capacitors/): Inductive coupling via signal OPTs is the least compromised way to de-couple a gain stage- it is the same topology that is used in our power amplifiers that drive very high loads of speakers. The only difference is that the load is not below 10 Ohms but above 10K Ohms. Therefore, the signal becomes very powerful and one can use smaller cores in the signal OPTs. Unlike signal capacitors, OPTs preserve signal integrity better and have the ability to reduce output impedance of valves, which in turn minimise impedance mismatch and improves linearity by making the initially weak signal very powerful in the end. All our DACs from performance level 4 (DAC IV and V) upwards have signal OPTs for those reasons by default. DAC II and DAC III are available in both versions budget friendly SPX (capacitor de-coupled) and Balanced (OPT de-coupled). - [Design Choice: Performance vs Compatiblity](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/design-choice-performance-vs-compatiblity/): In the end it is all design choices: one either designs for maximum compatibility or maximum sound quality as one cannot have both in this imperfect world. - [SW1X Harmonic Matching Principle](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/sw1x-harmonic-matching-principle/): It is well known that there are no perfect components, parts or materials in our imperfect world. Therefore, the only way to achieve a balanced sound is by carefully selecting and combining materials & components in an electrical circuit design. Combining components in a circuit in a harmonic (complementary or synergising) way is an art and the key to a great sound. Harmonic matching is the outcome of careful voicing, listening to all parts separately as well as combined together. It is a fallacy to believe that by employing excellent sounding, exotic components & materials into an elegantly engineered circuit is automatically going to make the product sound at its best. In practice, one may end up with mediocre sound even with finest materials & components in a elegant circuit design because even the finest components & materials are far from being perfect. In the end it is all about the implementation i.e. combining circuit design and selecting materials & components in such a way that the product sounds at its best. Therefore combining components & materials in harmonic way is as equally important as the circuit design and the choice of materials & components. - [Are You on the Road to Audio Hell?](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/are-you-on-the-road-to-audio-hell/): The quiz - We Audiophiles are always trying to sharpen our skills at evaluating audio components. However, the very methods we use can result in precisely the opposite of the effect desired, namely boredom or frustration with our audio system before we have even paid for it; in other words, AUDIO HELL. Take the following short quiz to help determine if you have traveled this road lately. - [I/U (I/V) Conversion – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/frequently-asked-question-faq/): Frequently Asked Questions  (FAQ) - [Delta Sigma vs Non-oversampling (NOS) R2R DAC – Ultimate Guide](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/delta-sigma-vs-non-oversampling-r2r-dac-designs/): An R2R DAC (originally written as R/2R) is a type of digital-to-analog converter that uses a resistor ladder network made of only two resistor values: R and 2R. This ladder creates output voltages proportional to the binary input signal, enabling digital-to-analog conversion without complex processing. Unlike delta-sigma DACs, which dominate modern designs and rely on feedback loops and noise shaping, R2R DACs operate without feedback and use parallel resistors to process the full bit depth (e.g., 24-bit) directly. This can result in faster time-domain response, lower inherent noise, absence of noise shaping artifacts. - [Passive vs Active I/V (I/U) Conversion](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/passive-vs-active-iv-conversion/): There are several ways to convert current into voltage (called I/V or I/U conversion stage) and all of them are full of compromises. Please refer to our frequently asked questions (FAQ) section (by clicking here). Popular way to passively convert current into voltage is to use a resistor. Passive resistive approach (using a resistor of high value) unfortunately kills signal integrity and its dynamics (also contributes to an impedance mismatch), unless a very low value resistor (below 10 Ohms) and I/V interface transformer is employed. Nevertheless, using a high value resistor (larger than 20 Ohms) as I/V conversion method across current out of a DAC and a tube grid results in most cases in impedance mismatch. If the output and input impedances are not matched, the mismatch acts like a filter in the audible frequency spectrum, where in most cases low frequencies are lost. On top of that, the consecutive stages in the audio amplification chain loose the drive and the dynamics irreversibly. The earlier the impedance mismatch in the chain, the worse it is. The most detrimental impedance mismatch in digital sources known to me is between the digital transport and the SPDIF receiver of a DAC but that is a different topic for now. - [Black Gate Capacitors](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/black-gate-capacitors/): It is worth mentioning that the Black Gate (BG) capacitors have been out of production since 2006. Due to their quality and scarcity of supply, their price only went up over the decade. BGs are now selling 3-5 times their original retail price. Needless to say more as these facts speak for themselves. While some caps excel in one or some area(s) or another, no other capacitor type on this planet sounds as complete as BGs. The only real alternative (if it is an alternative at all) is the careful harmonic matching with other capacitors & materials, which only approaches the magic sound qualities close to the Black Gates. - [Conductor Design – some comments on the issue of importance of wiring](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/conductor-design-some-comments-on-the-issue-of-importance-of-cables/): In spite of all natural limitations, we should not accept a compromise on signal transmission. The main objective was to create a minimum compromise conductor design, which maximises signal integrity and its transfer behavior while minimising the effects of as resistance, inductance and capacitance causing signal modulation or simply a loss of a signal integrity. In transmission line theory terms, we looked to design a conductor that would match the impedances (i.e. minimise the signal loss) between the signal source and the load more closely. After all, the main goal of a cable design is to maximise the signal transfer behavior i.e. minimise the impedance mismatch, overcoming the effects of resistance, inductance and capacitance. - [Audio Note Silver & Copper Tantalum Resistors Review](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/audio-note-silver-tantalum-resistor-review/): Now, the best possible resistor would be free of any deficiency stated above - a fully transparent resistor, that neither adds nor removes anything and to date we have not heard one yet. Those who are familiar with the old out of production Shinkoh resistors from Japan, will agree that Shnikoh tantalum resistors (2W version in particular) may have been the least compromised sounding resistors that were ever mass-produced. Kondo san and other sound masters used those resistors in their top audio equipment for a reason. - [Black Gate VK/WKz vs AN Kaisei Review](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/black-gate-vkwkz-vs-an-kaisei-review/): Rubycon Black Gate VK 150uF/350V, VK 22uF/350, WKZ 100uF/500V - [The Negative Effects of Negative Feedback Loops](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/negative-feedback-loop/): In addition to this obvious form of feedback induced distortion, there exists another more subtle effect of signal regeneration. Because all amplifiers have some forward propagation delay, the fed back portion of the output signal will always lag behind the input. There is therefore a constant introduction of "out of date" information into the amplifier. Under transient conditions (which is what music is; transients), this results in the presentation of an error correction signal intended to reduce the distortion of an input signal which has already passed through the amplifier and is either already out of the circuit or well on the way out of the circuit. The signal present at the input by the time the feedback has arrived may bear no relation to the previous signal and thus will not be properly acted upon by the regenerated information. The current input signal is then distorted once, through the subtraction of an erroneous feedback waveform, and again by the amplifier. Additionally, the error signal present in feedback is passed through the amplifier and again fed back, with all of the newly created distortions, to make yet another trip through the circuit, until it is allowed to decay through successive attenuation. Thus, a distortion signal which originally may have lasted only a few microseconds, can pass through the amplifier enough times for its effective duration to have exceeded the threshold of human audibility. The mechanism originally designed to reduce audible distortion, actually, under transient conditions, serves to regenerate, emphasize and, in fact, create distortion. - [Rechargable Batteries: Advantages and Disadvantages](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/rechargable-batteries-for-audio-advantages-and-disadvantages/): Original article in Russian - [Introduction to Field Coil Speakers](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/introduction-to-field-coil-speakers/): The history of speakers commenced in 1874, when the German engineer Ernst Werner von Siemens, founder of Siemens, described the design featuring a circular T-shaped coil positioned within a magnetic field. The vertical movement of the voice coil became feasible thanks to a specialized mount. Ernst von Siemens highlighted the device's potential for audio playback. Subsequently, Siemens filed two patents that essentially outlined the loudspeaker design. Following numerous refinements around the 1920s, dynamic cone speakers evolved into a type that has seen little alteration to this day. - [SW1X Audio Design Components & Materials Reviews](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/ideal-solution-for-high-resolution-music/): Every material and component have their own distinct sound character. Understanding how materials & components and their interactive behaviour affect the sound is an essential aspect of the overall knowledge necessary to create musical sounding audio products. Believe it or not, studying materials & components is just as important as understanding circuit topology. Despite this, remarkably few audio companies research exotic, vintage & sophisticated passive components like Black Gate, Kaisei, non-magnetic resistors, silver wires or other esoteric and therefore by necessity expensive components and parts. In contrast, we are spending incalculable numbers of hours critical listening every product we make, to ensure that it maximises its performance to price level best possible. - [Pure Silver vs Silver Plated Copper Wires](https://sw1xad.co.uk/technology_post/pure-silver-vs-silver-plated-copper-wires/): Silver alloy materials should not be confused with a silver plated copper material, which not only sounds inferior and but also only uses less than 1% of pure silver. Electro-plating is a low cost chemical process, where a very thin layer of silver is plated on the surface of copper. It is by miles sonically inferior to the process of physically melting high content Silver with copper. Unless copper is very thickly silver plated (in practice only up to 100 microns)  silver plated copper wires tend to have a two dimensional dissonating  sound with shouting and muffled top end, wash out midrange and an undefined lower registers. - [Articles of AML – A. If that was possible then it would make a digital product complete, similar to CD players back in the days were- one and inseparable solution. In order to achieve this goal, we were looking to replicate the direct & analogue sound character of the original & legendary Philips CDM0/CDM1 swing-arm CD pick up mechanism, which has been out of production since 1990s. It proved to be a difficult task to achieve given the trend of supplier racing towards cost reduction which shaped the mass consumer market since the discontinuation of the CDM0/CDM1 production. This has eventually led to the demise of CD pick up mechanism, downhill spiral in quality of digital transports and accelerated the transition into convenience driven computer hard drive based storage or currently completely remote streaming based digital. It is a further development of the PRE III power line stage pre-amplifier. The difference in line stage design to power amps is that our goal is the preservation of the signal integrity while minimizing the output impedance and not really signal amplification and reduction of output impedance. Consequently, PRE IV offers the sound akin of DHT tubes plus has very powerful output to drive any power amp, with output impedance below 10 Ohms. - [SW1X LPU V Phono Pre-Amplifier](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/lpu-v-phono-pre-amplifier/): LPU V is our top of the line 45 Directly Heated Triode power output tube based Phono Pre-Amplifier. Similar to LPU I, it is a two gain stage, active RIAA equalization design. The input stage utilises lush sounding 2 x EF86 valves, loaded by RIAA equalization network and is amplified by the 2 x EC86 single triode tubes on the output stage. - [SW1X LPU I Phono Pre-Amplifier](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-lpu-1/): LPU I, LPU II and LPU III family of Phono Pre-Amplifiers share similar tube input stage- a pair of EF86 pentode tubes. Due to the brilliant sound character of the EF86 those tubes were commonly used in many radios and RTR tape recorders in the early 60s. The idea of their circuit design was borrowed from the input stage of early Reel to Reel (RTR) tape recorders, which were used in the mastering studios and radio stations. Maybe that is one of the reasons as why most recording from the 60s are sounding at their best, much better than from the 70s and 80s? In a way, the EF86 input tube design closes the loop and makes all our LPU Phono Amps range a time-less classic. - [SW1X DAC X](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-x/): The musical performance of the DAC X re-defines what was thought is possible from a digital playback. When partnered with a matching VDT digital source, its analogue character is indistinguishable from the best Reel-to-Reel and Vinyl playback. - [SW1X DAC V](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-v/): Similar to the DAC III Balanced & the DAC IV, DAC V is Signal Output Transformer (OPT) de-coupled yet is amplified by Directly Heated Triodes and powered by Directly Heated Valve Rectified Quasi Dual Mono Power Supply. The Signal Output Transformer (OPT) de-coupling of the Directly Heated Valve Output Stage is the closest approximation to a truly “invisible” sounding R2R DAC. - [SW1X DAC IV](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-iv/): DAC IV is a further development in musical scale & refinement of the already magical sounding TDA1541 based DAC III Balanced, with the introduction of Power Output Valves and Directly Heated Diodes (DHD) in the power supply. The DHD valve power supplies are 2 x choke filtered and quasi dual mono in design. - [SW1X DAC III Balanced](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-iii-balanced/): Based on the legendary Philips TDA1541 DAC, the SW1X DAC III Balanced offers a harmonically rich and lush sound with improved dymanics over the predecessors. - [SW1X DAC III USB](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-iii-vsb/): The SW1X DAC III USB version is essentially a DAC III (Single Ended) with an integrated USB interface in full size chassis like the Balanced version just without signal OPTs, larger power supplies & power tube output stage. - [SW1X DAC III](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-iii/): SW1X DAC III introduces TDA1541 DAC and 6N6P Double Triode Valve Output Stage, adding additional level of organic & analogue envelope to the sound over DAC II.  The sonic character becomes indistinguishable from analogue playback when combined with analogue sounding digital transport. Available in either single-ended (SE) or in Balanced versions. The Balanced versions of the DAC III is equipped with signal output transformers (OTPs) providing true balanced and single ended outputs. - [SW1X DAC II Balanced Special](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-ii-balanced-special/): The Balanced Special version is a top of the line & very special DAC II: it is the fusion of the DAC II Balanced and the DAC IV Special. - [SW1X DAC II Balanced](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-ii-balanced/): Similar to the DAC III Balanced, DAC II Balanced comes equipped with a EL82/EL84 power tube output stage. The step up in transparency over the STD & SPX versions is provided by a signal output transformer (OPT) de-coupled power tube output stage driven by the active I/V conversion stage for an even more dynamic bite. - [SW1X DAC II](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-2/): DAC II comes equipped with more sophisticated power supplies and powerful 6N6P/6N30P/5687/E182CC valve output stage with 6X5GT (or 5Y3) valve rectification. The DAC II has a similar analogue & musical character akin to DAC I but with a step up in low level musical refinement and presentation on another level. The circuit design is pure and elegantly simple with only one decoupling capacitor per channel in the signal path. Everything from input to output, including the mains inlet, the whole signal path is wired with specially selected SW1X copper conductors & dielectric- the same ones that are employed in our Genesis and Opus cables. - [SW1X DAC I](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-dac-1/): With an elegantly simple design, SW1X DAC I is one of the most musical and purist NOS R2R DAC ever made. This is the best high-end entry level solution to a musical, organic & analogue sounding digital setup- just add an analogue sounding digital transport and re-experience your collection of music.  - [SW1X PRE III Line Pre-Amplifier](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-pre-iii-power-line-pre-amplifier/): The PRE III is a pure class A, zero negative feedback (global or local) line pre-amplifier with a signal output transformer (OPT) de-coupled valve output stage. Signal OPT of highest quality not only increases transparency (superior to any kind of capacitors) but also lowers the output impedance of the line pre-amplifier further close to 4 Ohms, capable of driving any load of power amplifier input. That virtually unlimited driving capability of PRE III (as well as the DHT version PRE IV) line pre-amplifier acts as a supercharger to a source (DAC Phono, Tape or Radio). It is a great enhancement to any tube power amplifier, driving a sources (DAC or Phono), which has a weaker small signal (high output impedance) tube based output stage. With a help of a PRE III, any source becomes unleashed to drive subsequent power amplifiers to its full potential. - [SW1X PRE II Line Pre-Amplifier](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-pre-ii-line-pre-amplifier/): The PRE II is a pure class A, Output Transfomerless (OTL) line pre-amplifier with Power Valve Output Stage. Employing 6V6 power tubes at the output makes the PRE II a smaller brother to the SW1X PRE IV pre-amplifier, which also employs 6V6 power tubes. It is great enhancement to any tube power amplifier and ideal partner to our Level 1, 2 & 3 DACs and LPU Phono products, reducing their output impedance further and enhancing their sound with fullness and authority. With a help of a PRE II, any source becomes unleashed to drive subsequent power amplifiers to its full potential. - [SW1X PRE I Line Pre-Amplifier](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-pre-i-line-phono-pre-amplifier/): The PRE I is a pure class A, Output Transfomerless (OTL) line pre-amplifier with Power Valve Output Stage. Employing El84 power tubes at the output makes the PRE I a smaller brother to the SW1X PRE II Pre-amplifier. It is great enhancement to any tube power amplifier and ideal partner to our Level 1 & 2 DAC and LPU Phono products, reducing their output impedance further and enhancing their sound with fullness and authority. With a help of a PRE I, any source becomes unleashed to drive subsequent power amplifiers to its full potential. - [SW1X SUT MC Step Up Transformers](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-sut-mc-step-up-transformers/): The SW1X Audio Design™ Step-Up Transformer (SUT) is a precision-crafted component designed to unlock the full sonic potential of moving coil (MC) cartridges by perfectly matching their output and impedance characteristics. - [SW1X Litz Copper Cable Products Overview](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-solid-litz-copper-cables-conductor/): https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-magnum-reference-copper-litz-cable/ - [SW1X Audio Transformers](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/sw1x-signal-output-transformers/): SW1X Audio Transformers & Components Gallery - [Digital Audio Interface Transformers](https://sw1xad.co.uk/products/digital-audio-interface-transformers/): The SW1X Digital Audio Interface Transformers are precision-engineered components designed specifically for RCA & XLR SPDIF and AES/EBU digital audio inputs. I have been friends with Callas for 15 years, but that is not the reason for the purchase. The DAC3 SPX will replace my Lampizator Amber 4 DAC. The reason for the switch is not that I don’t like the Lampizator. It is a good and musical DAC, which sounds relaxing. The SW1X DAC3 SPX is in a different league. To begin with, I find the build quality of the SW1X DACs to be of a much higher level. The internal finish and components really caught my eye. I’m not going to bring Lampizator down here, but it’s my opinion based on what I’ve seen from the inside. When I opened up my Amber 4 for tube rolling I was a bit shocked. The soldering and how the cabling is pulled too tight by tie wraps. I think it looks like a DIY project. It says nothing about the sound, but I see very big differences between the two brands in the way of building. I want to emphasize that this is my opinion and I say this because it has been the reason for me to look at a new DAC with, in my opinion, a higher build quality. When I have the SW1X in my setup in two months and it’s broken in, I’ll share the differences based on my opinion and my set. A short update and mini review from Amsterdam. I have now received the DAC3 SPX. Unpacking was a party. The D3 is luxuriously finished with beautiful materials. It hurts to hide the D3 in the rack, because it’s too beautiful. I let the D3 burn in for three days with no signal. The last two days only left on at night and turned off during the day. I have now listened to some hours of music. I had expected a heavy break-in period, but after a few hours the D3 starts to play very nicely. The very first thing that strikes me is the musicality. It is balanced over the entire frequency range. Round and full tones from bottom to top. The Lampizator Amber 4 had more aggression in it. The midrange was slightly behind compared to the lows and highs. Clearly more gain and push in the sound. It sounds heavier than it was, but there is clearly a big difference between the two. I can’t fully judge the D3 yet, but my experience is that this will only get better and the D3 will show very special things. The combination SW1X D3, CEC TL5 and Hijiri cabling works incredibly well. The balance between the components is magical and musical. I will share more later, but it is clear that SW1X build a very special DAC that just play music in a smooth relaxed way without it becoming boring or too romantic. Clarity and detailing is sufficient without dominating. My compliments to the UK. - [SW1X DAC II & LPU I](https://sw1xad.co.uk/userreviews/16391/): What a long strange trip it’s been. When I first embarked on my digital audio journey I opted for DACs with all the bells and whistles, all the features and every possible hardware connection. And over what has been easily more than a dozen DACs each from different manufacturers, I realised that finding the sound with which I could be happy should be my primary concern and then everything would fall into place. My present SW1X gear as pictured: SW1X DAC II and SW1X LPU 1. If someone had told me that some 10 years later my everyday DAC would connect to my digital source via an RCA Coaxial cable and play files at a maximum of 24-bit/96 kHz resolution, I would have laughed at them mercilessly. Still, now I have to admit, I’ve never been happier listening to music from my digital library, so much so that I doubled down and got the LPU I phone stage to cover all my bases. I decided to go with SW1X because once I heard them at someone’s in London, England, I knew I had to know more so I travelled out to SW1X HQ and interviewed its founder/designer Slaw Roschkow. That interview has been posted in the group several times. Having visited Slawa and learning more about his design philosophy and dedication to making gear that delivers the utmost in playback and sound reproduction, I was sold right then and there. ## Robo Gallery -
