Hey guys,

my system is DAC 3 BAL SP, PRE 3 SP, MPA V ATLAS and MTR 963 FC.

I was wondering if anybody else has the monitor 963 speakers. I was wondering about your experience with break in/ burn in.

today I noticed a little more dynamic bite from them. probably had about 10 hours of music playback so far.

Hi @khan84,

Sweet system you have there! Yes do factor the run-in for the system, I would suggest a minimum of 48 hours for optimum results.

Sharing recent exprience at a show - when we set up the system at night and started playing - the sound was nothing like what we were used to (even though we roughly had the same system playing with the MTR 963s just few hours ago!).

We left it overnight to run-in and came back next evening. Behold, there was a huge difference in performance already!

But something still wasn't right so replaced the cabling in the system (were using our friend's cables) with our Magnum X cables. The system found a new life and started singing with more authority.

Came back morning before the show and the system, along with MTR963 loudspeakers, was delivering effortless playback. The system harmonised and the room came to life in the same fashion that I am much used at our own demo room.

Thank you guys. Well it’s been many months and I am loving my system with the SW1X m963s. I must say the burn in period for me in my setup was longer than I expected but it was worth the wait.

one thing I’ve discovered just by chance is that the advice with tube amplification and speakers has always been to use shorter speaker cables. Well recently I purchased one of my favourite speaker cables in 2 metre length each. To my surprise it did not sound as good as the 8 metre length cable I was using.

the shorter cable sounded edgy for lack of a better word. Perhaps uneasy is a more appropriate word. When I replaced the 2m with 8m the sound had better flow. A more composed sound overall.

I just thought to share this as perhaps others can try it in their system.  It’s very surprising for me as I’ve read many comments about tube gear and this was not mentioned enough.
