SW1X Battle Royale – Capacitor Shootout

This is a brand new series presenting a very familiar concept to audiophiles and music lovers like never before.

It is a fantastic opportunity to provide an expensive research undertaking to a wide audience free of charge. Consumers or hobbyist cannot do this kind of research on their own because thanks to our friends at HiFi Collective, we have 62 capacitors worth over £10,000, going head against one another in an extremely transparent and revealing, high performance system.

Measurements, though important, mean little in audio. Since humans are the final audience, one has to listen to every component individually to make judgements before anything can go into a circuit.

What makes this series special? You get to hear several different capacitors, untainted by any company or reviewer’s opinion and presented as they sound in ceteris paribus conditions.

Usual limitations apply such as are digital compressions and processes from our recording device to your playback device – albeit those limitations apply equally to all the capacitors you would hear.

Each capacitor has been run-in for at least 100 hours before it is placed in our extremely lush and analogue sounding DAC III, which is the highest level of our DAC before we switch to Signal Output Transformers instead of Signal Output Capacitors.

Can this get any better? Yes! The shootout is active battle royale format where capacitors are competing against one another. It is you, who will decide the winner in each round and win our prized, SW1X MAGNUM X REFERENCE LITZ COPPER CABLE!

Rules of the Shootout

Voting

There are 62 Capacitors in this contest. Every episode will feature a group of 5-6 capacitors, chosen randomly. As participants, you have to vote for the best sounding capacitor from each group. The voting for each group is open until the release of next episode (i.e for 2 weeks). The voting is anonymous and the results for each group will be posted before the release of the next episode.

 

Playoff Format

Round 1 features 12 episodes. The winners of Groups 1-6 will progress to Round 2, where the 6 winning capacitors will compete against each other. Similarly, winners of Groups 7-12 will progress to Round 2 and compete against one another. The winners of Round 2 will compete one another in a final showdown, determining which capacitor was voted the most favourite by the audience.

  1. The lucky draw is open to participants globally.
  2. Only one entry per episode, per participant is allowed.
  3. Votes must be submitted on the voting form given on this page. The voting form for each episode is available from the release of the episode until the release of next episode (2 weeks).
  4. Winning criteria: Vote on each episode what your favorite capacitor is. Winner will be chosen at random from participants who have voted on all episodes.
  5. The winner will be announced on this page and contacted via email.
  6. The winner may notify in writing via email if they do not want their identity to be publicly revealed. To maintain transparency, entrants can request the name & email of the winner by inquiring via email, stating the name of the prize draw in the subject heading within 4 weeks after the closing date.
  7. The winners will be notified via email or post. Winners must claim their prize within 30 working days of receiving the notification. If the prize is unclaimed after this time, it will lapse and the SW1X Audio Design reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner selected in accordance with these rules.
  8. By entering this prize draw, all participants consent to the use of their contact details by SW1X Audio Design for the purposes of the administration of this prize draw and to keep participants updated with SW1X Audio Design news.
  9. SW1X Audio Design may disqualify any participant whose entry does not comply with these terms and conditions or who, in SW1X Audio Design’s sole discretion, has acted in a manner that is fraudulent, dishonest or unjust to other entrants including, without limitation, tampering with the operation of the prize draw or manipulating entries.
